Artist Statement
Environmental Irony and Beauty in Toxicity:

My relationship with the natural environment around me has always been one of awe. My experiences have ranged from complete and utter amazement to paralyzing fear and dread. My work is not necessarily meant to be from any particular visual time or place, but personal perceptions, reactions, and responses to the landscape.

Over the years, I have been forced to come to terms with another aspect of my paintings. It has become clear that the imperfection and toxicity of the materials, which come along with this desire to create some manifestation of beauty I see around me, has an ironic alignment with the biological health of the planet. I am obsessed with the sublime, despite the diminishing realm of the sublime in nature. My work is made through quite a toxic process of combining chemicals. It has become just as natural as nature, which is to say, quite contrived.
