Artist Statement
Where I live in Old Lyme, CT is literally between the marshlands, woodland and ocean. Watching the variety of life in these habitats change throughout the seasons is phenominal. As I explore these worlds, I am drawn to collect the seed pods, shells and vines which I find there. These collections provide the basic elements for my work in clay and fiber. The seed pods and shells are important to me because they once protected the spark of life that begins the journey. While the twisting and turning vines create three dimensional lines that describe the journey. The beginning, the journey and the evidence or artifacts of the journey tell the story of each life lived. I find so much beauty in the journey's process and work to share these images in my art.
