Artist Statement
Always surprised by what strikes me visually, this new series was literally driven-(no pun intended), by the amount of time I spend on the road. While driving I find myself captivated by the combination of sky, cement, asphalt and shadows. Highways, bridges, overpasses- these monolithic structures, these "temples of transport" are compelling forms, bathed in light and shadows exuding subtle yet bold images and colors. I am continuously awed by the concept that an external stimulus is always reinvented by the beauty and frustration of the painting process, due to its inherent characteristic of unraveling then revealing a synthesized version which incorporates the internal journey one takes while working.
