Artist Statement
Synthesis
My art practice is a multidisciplinary one that is primarily focusing now on two-dimensional and sometimes relief, structured, large (72”x48” and larger) abstract paintings that synthesize purified styles, drawn mostly from the modernist era, with patterns created by home-made tools such as bubble wrap, paper cups, and foam cylinders.
I am constantly investigating size and scale, shrinking or expanding the planes I paint on. Using found and created wooden objects instead of canvas I am returning to a past interest in the semi-flat, semi-three-dimensional art work, the place where painting and sculpture meet. Other new works and proposals include small paintings and wall-to-wall-floor-to-ceiling installations.
