Artist Statement
Faces are my passion. When I walk down a crowded street, I often find myself staring at people's faces. When one catches my eye, I imagine how I would capture that person on canvas in bold strokes of color and light.
When I was young, I drew faces on napkins and everything else I could get my hands on. I gazed at art books for hours and copied portraits by old masters with my beginner's set of oil paints. At age 10, I won an award for my portrait rendering of President Kennedy for a school project.
Though faces remain my passion, in recent years I have expanded my subjects to include figurative and wildlife paintings. My goal is always to draw viewers in, create a feeling when they look at the colors, the texture, and the expressions - the whole composition reaching out to inspire imagination, create a mood, and ultimately tell a story.
