Artist Statement
As an artist working with texts, I am interested in both verbal and non-verbal ways of knowing. I continually returning to the space where they meet. It is from this process that I gather inspiration from kinetic, sensory, emotional, psychological, intellectual and spiritual information. I make these aspects of non-visual reality visible, as if staining the wind. I therefore consider the time I spend in my studio to be a form of research into consciousness.

Since the 1990s my work has consisted of abstractly writing poetry and spiritual texts using small handmade brushes to mops and brooms and other non-traditional tools. Unfinished pieces from the last 20 years serve as the bases for my latest work. My intent in completing them at this time is to create a more mature aesthetic and spiritual expression from where I am now, which is why I call the series “Closer Alignments.”
