Artist Statement
I create art that pleases, intrigues, soothes. I love color and beauty. My mixed media digital fine art is created from reiterations of mixed media collage and digital photography. My love for color and form is expressed in abstract ways, creating line and form, color and depth. My oil paintings reflect what soothes me – landscapes that are full of color focusing on the changing sky as it plays out across water, trees and hillsides.

Additional Information
I see the world in all its glory and in all its ineptitude and in all its chaos. I read as much as I can, I learn as much as I can, and I am active in political venues. I want to leave this world a better place. I defer to Emerson - “To appreciate beauty; to find the best in others; to leave the world a bit better whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived. This is to have succeeded.”
My artistic visions are intended to be satisfy a need for beauty, fun, curiosity, and serenity. I believe strongly that we need to be able to immerse ourselves in aesthetics from time to time in order to keep our sanity. At least that is how I keep mine. I get lost in my work.
Reading classical and contemporary views of our environment and our connections to it has influenced me greatly. Authors such as Thoreau and Emerson alongside Rachel Carson got me started thinking about those connections early on.
That desire to create and be creative is something I was born with. I believe we all are born with it and it manifests itself
in different ways with each individual. Thank goodness! My creativity has always been centered on creating something aesthetically pleasing and if I can comment on the world around us at the same time, all the better. Even if the comment is just to record a disappearing landscape.
I started my professional art career painting landscapes in oils. Most of them have no sense of human presence - the viewer is alone with nature. I follow something of the essence of the Hudson River School in that way.
I have had a camera in my hand since I was a child and have an enormous collection of photography, mostly for references for painting. That has changed. My photographic eye and my creative visions now involve the computer. I have always also loved computers and the seemingly endless possibilities for creative expression. I teach Computer Graphics at Manchester Community College in Connecticut and that work has inspired this new digital genre that I am exploring.
I hope my viewers smile or relax or become curious. I am aware of others' reactions and feelings, and try to be considerate and encouraging. I am a teacher after all, as well as an artist.
