Artist Statement
Red is Neutral. This is a plural society, with multiples of rights and multiples of wrongs. I'm a New Yorker and I also live outside New Haven. We live in a created chaos. I enjoy that. Everything is under construction. But I'm more introspective ever since I made steel and painted flames with figures at the same time that I lived under a water tower on the 16th floor of a building with no fire escapes.
I worked within the theories of The Sublime and Action Painting as theoretical tools of survival. Now I work with a postmodernist sense of acceptance.
I work large and very physically with elemental materials. I've made hundreds of Danger Warning cones.
I try to live judgement-free, in detached reflective attentiveness, in the moment. I make objects as proof of my existence in this place and this time, and to replicate my experience. Sometimes they fling themselves about and smoke and steam to make visual noise. Sometimes they give me a fright.
