Artist Statement
Although I like to experiment with a variety of media, I consider myself first and foremost a printmaker. I am fascinated by the various tools, the smell of the inks, the machinery of the press. I continue to play with color, pattern and texture and incorporate these elements into my explorations of nature, architecture and faraway places.

These pieces are from a current series of work based on the book “The Secret Life of Plants” by Peter Tompkins and Christopher Bird. The book asks the questions, “Can plants communicate with each other? Can we communicate with plants and they with us? Do we underestimate the importance of plants in the larger scheme of the universe?” I was originally motivated to explore this idea when I saw a series by artist Anselm Kiefer based on the same book. The inspiration is the same, the approach very different.
