Artist Statement
After many years of printmaking and transforming natural and man-made forms into abstract shapes, over the past decade I have changed my medium, working in either mixed media or oil stick alone and have been incorporating recognizable images into my work.
In spite of this change of process and the evolution of images, my commitment remains the same: to communicate my personal vision of the world in a manner that will impact on the viewer. I aim to include the viewer in the curves of form, juxtapositions of color, and the dazzle of movement that motivated me in the making of the work. Recently, much of my focus has been on vegetables, produce markets, and foliage, but whether the depiction is of an eggplant or of a door jamb or of a splash of light, translating the lushness of the vision and the inner life of the inanimate continues to intrigue and challenge. I struggle to communicate the essentials of the subject matter while negotiating the pull between realism and abstract.
