Artist Statement
In my process, I shift the colors and the light using a special technique that I developed after years of experimentation. Despite what some might think, there is no computer manipulation involved in the colors that appear on the final print. Dodging (the lightening of an area), and burning (the darkening of an area) is a part of the production of any fine art photographic print, but the color you see on my final images is what you see on the original slides.
I believe that photography can offer us a fresh way of seeing and interpreting without simply duplicating the world around us. For this, I have had to push the boundaries. By underexposing the chrome film, using special filtration, manipulating development times, and incorporating long exposures, I can play with a totally new tonal pallet to show the viewer scenes in a new light.
By using unique light to my advantage, I hope to show the viewer a new way of manipulating reality.
