Artist Statement
My art combines the scientific and the artistic aspects of my personality to play and experiment with the natural world, my existence as a part of it, and my interactions within it. I explore the beauty and richness of natural phenomena, my ability to control natural phenomena, and the limitations of that control. I toy with human perception, the emergent sense of a whole that the mind assembles from individual elements, and illusions of depth and movement.
My current work utilizes water condensation as a medium. I have invented a process that selectively alters the surface of glass so that when condensation forms on it, an image appears. Made entirely of water, the condensation images are ephemeral, evaporating and reappearing in response to temperature and humidity. I then create more enduring works by capturing photographs of the condensation before it disappears.
