Artist Statement
MacClintock works in watercolor and acrylics, often combining the two to capture the transparency and luminosity of watercolor, enriched by the texture and opacity of acrylics. She paints primarily in series, searching for meaning in the sea, the sky, in everyday objects, and in ancient symbols, circles, shamans, lightning slashes, fish and flower shapes. She paints both representationally and abstractly. At its most typical, however, her work is neither, but rather a form of symbolism.
