Artist Statement
My sculptures are in a variety of sizes and materials, ranging from installation size, for indoors or outdoors, to pedestal size and utilize both natural and synthetic materials. The majority of my work uses natural materials, primarily wood, and found objects, joined together in a primitivistic manner, expressing personal feelings associated with myth and ritual, loss and rebirth. The often brutal form and meaning of these solemn works are in contrast to the highly colored, brash and ironically humorous style of those pieces constructed of synthetic materials. I focus on leading the viewer through the transformative process, producing forms which are abstract but usually biomorphic.

Artist Bio
JOSEPH D. SACCIO, SCULPTOR
RÉSUMÉ, 11/23/10 I am largely self-taught but have learned techniques at various places including the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, Ct. in the 1960's and '70's, especially with metal sculptor Ann Lehman. I also participated in a sculpture workshop with sculptor Stan Bliefeld in Westport, Ct.. From 1979 through 1982 during four summer vacations in Italy I observed and informally studied marble carving and bronze casting in the cities of Lucca and Pietrasanta.
