Artist Statement
Susan Clinard began her sculpture career over eighteen years ago. She works in wood, clay, bronze, stone and mixed media. Susan has taught at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Palette and Chisel Academy of Art, Creative Arts Workshop, and Gallery 37 to name a few. She has been awarded substantial public commissions and her sculptures can be found in many private collections worldwide.
Susan's sculptures respond to life's ongoing cycles of tearing down and
rebuilding as seen in both the physical world and in the human psyche. Her work explores such dualities with a balanced regard for content and medium. “Clinard crafts wonderfully evocative works that seem to exist at some mysterious junction between the world of the spirit and that of reality.” New Haven Register 2011
