Artist Statement
I treat the subject of my paintings and drawings, the changing
ecosystem, as a conceptual point of departure. I have come to the realization that changes on our planet continue to accelerate, outpacing our ability to respond. Interior and exterior shapes of life forms are in constant state of flux. As important relationships within the ecosystem disappear they trigger many ideas.

I begin my work process by gathering images from scientific text, direct observation of nature and manufactured forms. Through the physical act of making, I connect these fragmented pieces of biological and inorganic imagery gathered from controlled studies of environmental alterations due to rapid population growth and rampant industrialization. I juxtapose the natural, the microscopic and the imaginative life of familiar organisms and structures in altering environments. This process allows me to compose illogical compositions of imagery that refer to the adaptations organisms go through to survive.
