Artist Statement
My work engages in processes which are digitally based as represented by prints and video in addition to sculpture and assemblages.
I often combine these divergent mediums through a process most adequately described as recycling, wherein an object is physically constructed, photographed, and digitized. Once digitized, the image is deconstructed and introduced as a digital palette to create a print.
In keeping with this dialogue between found and reconstructed physical objects, ethereal compositions comprised of pixels and datum, I allow for further confluence by utilizing printing techniques that create a sense of texture within a two-dimensional space.
In tandem with the recycling of my ideas, I glean samples of color and form from internet searches and still frame extractions of video. Wood, plastics, metals, and laminations of various papers function both as subjects and media.

Artist Bio
Paul Theriault is an artist currently residing and working in New Haven Connecticut, and Brooklyn, New York. His work is based in new media, sound and sculpture. From 1992-2002, he lived in Chicago, Illinois, where he studied orchestral technique of the contra bass and worked primarily in digital video and sound based art. He is currently working on a two public art installations, one in collaboration with Siebren Versteeg for Artspace (New Haven) and a solo project with the Arts Council of Greater New Haven. Both are scheduled to open in May and June of 2010, respectively. Theriault has exhibited work regularly in the United States as well as had his video work screened overseas. Examples of his work appear on several online journal spaces, and in the Artspace, New Haven Flatfile series.
